Welcome to Oberheide.org
We are an Oberheide family in the USA

"Oberheide" translates from German literally as upper heath.  Heath is a type of shrubland habitat.

Oberheide individuals immigrated into the US during the mid 1800s.  Most of these Oberheides originated from the present day city of Hanover, Germany.  These persons located to the US in these areas where "clusters" of Oberheides are found:

Cape Girardeau, Mo
William Oberheide, b1838
Cook Co, IL
Will Co. IL
St. Louis, MO
Miami Co. KS
Webster Co. NE
Alameda Co., CA

We are Oberheides from Cape Girardeau, MO.  Our ancestor Wilhelm (William) Oberheide was born May 23, 1838 in Hilligsfeld, Hanover, Germany.  He immigrated initially to the US to the Chicago Cook Co. area circa 1850 leaving his family behind in Germany.  We only know this about his German family:

Father:    Johann Friedrich Oberheide
Mother:   Charlotte Stumme
Siblings:
              1832    Friedrich August
              1834    Heinrich Friedrich Christian
              1838    Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Christian
              1840    Heinrich Friedrich Karl

Gravestone

Wilhelm enlisted during the US Civil War with the Missouri 4th Cavalry, met Anna Klemme during the war, marrying 1963 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and settled there after the war ended in 1865, having two sons.  He died young in 1870 and interred in Cape Girardeau.  These Oberheides remained in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, until this generation.
